A tabletop roleplaying game

The world ended in silence.
Your story starts there.

A dark fantasy RPG of desperate expeditions through a fungal ruin. The whole game lives on one screen: the complete rules, the bestiary, the original booklets, and live tools that reach your players where they sit.

  • Dark fantasy hex crawl
  • One GM, 2 to 4 players
  • Dice, paper, one screen
  • Works offline

What TYSTNAD is

A video game's polish.
A tabletop's soul.

TYSTNAD looks and feels like the dark RPGs you play on screen: one atmospheric interface, living tools, a world that answers you.

But this is a tabletop roleplaying game. It is played by real people around a real table, with dice you can drop and friends you can look in the eye. No computer plays it for you. The screen serves the Gamemaster; the game happens between you.

How it plays

Old-school exploration.
Modern, streamlined rules.

A hex crawl with the weight left in. You pick a direction, the map answers, and what you find is yours to survive. The rules underneath are tight enough to stay out of the way: the number you have to beat never changes, and the die you roll grows as you do.

01

One target. A growing die.

Three numbers run the whole game: Easy 4 or better, Normal 5, Hard 6. The same targets meet you in a skill test, a defense roll, and the ground you cross. No opposed rolls. What changes is the die in your hand, from a d6 untrained up to the d20 of true mastery.

02

The map is the campaign

Hexploration. Each day buys three efforts across Travel, Explore, Forage and Camp. Grassland costs one Travel, forest two, mountains three. Every evening a Supply is gone.

03

Bring it home, or it never happened

Two rhythms. Skills sharpen through use. Haven, the settlement you expedition out from, grows on what you carry back, and the whole party levels with it. Find something and fail to return, and you delivered nothing.

What's inside

Run the whole game from one screen

01

The complete reference

Rules, tables, and rulings built for the table. Difficulty, combat, conditions, expeditions: every answer is one search away, in an interface made for dim rooms and fast rulings.

02

The bestiary

Every creature of the ruin with art, stats, and the guidance to run it with teeth.

03

The original booklets

Read the Player and Gamemaster booklets page by page, right in your browser.

04

Table Link

Push what you choose to your players' screens as you play. Initiative, conditions, reveals: your table sees what you want it to see, the moment you want it seen.

06

Ready for the dead zone

Once loaded, the reference works offline. Basement, back room, cabin at the edge of coverage: the game keeps running. The tools are built for real tables, not perfect Wi-Fi.

The bestiary

The ruin is inhabited

A few of the residents. The bestiary holds them all, statted and ready to run.

For your players

The companion app is free

Your players need no account, no purchase, and no login to use it. One Explorer, one screen, at the table. It is a die and a sheet, never a referee: the Gamemaster still sets every difficulty and calls every outcome.

01

Your Explorer, made in minutes

Guided character creation, then a living sheet that tracks hit points, conditions, and advancement as the campaign grinds on.

02

Dice that know the rules

Roll defense, attacks, and death rolls with the right die already chosen for your class and your armor.

03

Gear and sorcery

Slot-based inventory that keeps you honest about what you carry, and your spells with their costs in reach.

04

Combat and expeditions

The turn you are in and the hex you are crossing, tracked where your hands already are.

05

The handbook, offline

The player rules you need mid-session, on the same screen, with no signal required.

06

Table Link, when your table uses it

Your GM pushes initiative, conditions, and reveals straight to your screen. The app itself stays free. The live link is the only paid part: buy Table Link once and it works in every campaign you ever join, or pay nothing if your Gamemaster owns Full House and seats the table.

Want the live link to your Gamemaster's table? A Table Link is €12, bought once and yours permanently. It belongs to you rather than to a campaign, so it works with any Gamemaster and any number of games you ever join. If your Gamemaster owns Full House, you pay nothing at all.

Install it

Put it on your home screen

The app runs in any modern browser without installing anything. Installing it is still worth a minute of your time: it gets its own icon, opens without browser clutter, works with no signal, and keeps your saved Explorer safe from a browser that tidies away storage it thinks you have stopped using.

  1. 1

    iPhone and iPad

Open the app in Safari. Tap the Share button, scroll down, and choose Add to Home Screen.

  2. 2

    Android

Open the app in Chrome. Tap the menu, then Install app, or Add to Home screen if that is what your version calls it.

  3. 3

    Computer

Open the app in Chrome or Edge and click the install icon at the right of the address bar. On Firefox, bookmark it instead: it runs, but Firefox does not install web apps on the desktop.

Where it lives

The companion app is hosted on GitHub, not on this site, and that is deliberate. It costs us nothing to serve, which is part of why it is free to you. It also sits on separate infrastructure, so your Explorer stays reachable even on a day when this site does not. It is plain static files: no account, no tracking, nothing to sign up for.

However you play

Your table decides
how much screen it wants

TYSTNAD is a tabletop game first. Dice you can drop, paper you can scribble on, people you can read across a table. The screen serves that, and you choose how much of it to use.

01

One screen, yours

You run the whole game from the site. Your players need no device at all: pen, paper and dice do the rest.

02

Some screens

Players who want the free app bring it. Players who prefer paper keep paper. Both belong at the same table.

03

Every screen linked

Up to six companion apps link to your table, and you push initiative, conditions and reveals to each of them as you play.

Printed booklets and downloadable PDFs will follow after launch, for tables that want the game entirely on paper. They are not part of what you buy today.

Bought once. Owned always.

You buy TYSTNAD one time and own it permanently. No subscription, no renewal, no expiry date waiting in the dark. Your campaigns, characters, and notes belong to you, and you can export them in open formats whenever you wish. Even a refund never deletes your work: if you come back, it is still waiting.

Made with open eyes

TYSTNAD is written and designed by a human hand. Some artwork and parts of our digital tooling are created with AI assistance, and this site is built with it. We tell you where the machines helped before you ask, because you should know exactly what you are buying.

Questions

Before you commit

Is this a video game?

No. TYSTNAD is a tabletop roleplaying game, played by real people with real dice. The site and the app are tools that carry the rules, the bestiary, and the table itself; the playing is done by you.

Do I need anything besides this site?

No. The site holds the complete game, and the original booklets are included and readable online. Printed books are a separate pleasure, never a requirement.

What do my players pay?

Nothing to start. The companion app is free for characters, inventory, and dice. To connect live to your campaign, a player owns a Table Link, or you host him with Full House.

Does it really work offline?

Yes. Once you have loaded the reference while online, it keeps working where the signal dies. The GM tools are built for real tables, not perfect Wi-Fi.

What about refunds?

Checkout and refunds are handled by Paddle, our merchant of record. See the refund policy for the terms. A refund removes access but never deletes your campaigns.

The ruin is patient.
Your players are not.
